Upscale Images to 4K with AI

Take a photo that is too small for a 4K display, a large print or a full-width hero and rebuild it to 3840px — with detail reconstructed, not just stretched.

What 4K actually requires

4K means 3840 × 2160 pixels for UHD, or 4096 × 2160 for the DCI cinema standard. In practice, when someone asks for a 4K image they mean roughly 8 megapixels with the long edge somewhere near 3840.

Most images fall short. A 1080p screenshot is 1920px — exactly half. A phone photo shared through a messaging app often arrives at 1280px or less, because the app recompressed it on the way. Getting to 4K from either means the model has to reconstruct millions of pixels that were never in the file you have.

Why stretching does not work

Classic resizing runs an interpolation filter — bicubic, Lanczos — that averages neighbouring pixels to fill the gaps. Averaging cannot create information. If the original never captured the texture of a brick wall, blending its neighbours will not produce one; you get the same detail spread thinner, which reads as softness.

AI reconstruction works differently. Trained on millions of high-resolution images and their degraded versions, the model learns what typically disappears when an image is downscaled or compressed, then estimates it back. Shown a soft edge it recognises as an eyelash, it rebuilds an eyelash rather than blurring outward.

What to expect from your source

  • 1920px and above — excellent results. There is real detail to work from.
  • 1000–1900px — reliable for most photos, and the most common starting point.
  • 500–1000px — usable, though faces and text need checking at 100% zoom.
  • Under 500px — the model is inventing the majority of the image. Sometimes convincing, often not.

One rule beats every setting: start from the largest original you can find. Not the version you emailed, not the download from social media — those have already been recompressed. The camera file or original export will out-perform any amount of clever processing applied to a degraded copy.

Will my image be watermarked?

What file formats are supported?

JPG, PNG, WEBP, TIFF and BMP as input. For output, use PNG or TIFF if the image is going to print, and WebP at quality 90-92 for web use.
